The Seafood Processing industry in Alaska has unique requirements when it comes to boxing and shipping the fish caught in that area. There is a wide variety of types and grades of fish (for example, salmon can be “Red”, “Pink”, “King”, etc.); each carton must be labeled with complex information; and that labeling has to be done very quickly.
When Ocean Beauty Seafoods looked for a system to solve their production and printing requirements, they found SIMBA. This system was developed specifically to address the needs of fresh/frozen and canned processing plants. It uses touch screen technology to capture the many attributes of the fish on the fly, integrates to scales that automatically input exact weight, and produces a complex label quickly. The icing on the cake was the information that SIMBA gathers, which allows management to monitor productivity, inventory and shipping on a moment-to-moment basis.
Since their initial SIMBA installation, Ocean Beauty has implemented SIMBA in their many Alaska locations, using both the Fresh/Frozen and the Canned systems.
